F1 racing is regularly seen as one of the most thrilling sporting events in the world. The car racing championship grew out of European GPs but it was only in 1950 that rules were set down, with the first F1 races happening in 1950. While the championship takes in various all over the globe, one constant is always there - the car firms who invest money into their teams annually. There are firms with a large history such as Ferrari, Renault and McLaren, although in recent years Virgin and Red Bull have competed in races. The spectators are always interested in the drivers, from the unlucky Stirling Moss through to the popular racer Graham Hill.

Also called motor racing, car racing is simply the racing of cars for sport and is understandably one of the most popular and most watched sports in the whole world. It's thought car racing commenced just after the very first gasoline-powered vehicle was devised and it's widely thought that the first ever world car race was put together in 1894 by a French magazine known as Le Petit Journal. The first race track ran from Paris to Rouen and attracted top motor manufacturers like Peugeot and De Dion and many other amateur car owners. Although car racing continued to flourish over the years, it wasn't until the 1930s that automobiles were built with racing solely in mind, with exceptional performance vehicles from motor manufacturers like Auto Union and Bugatti transforming the feel and style of car racing forever.
Racing events

There are quite a few motor racing events each year which each have a different fan base around the world and each have a set of specific rules. The FIA World Touring Car Championship is one of the top racing events in the busy motor sports calendar. Following the first event in 1987, the WTCC series is held in numerous parts of the world including locations like the UK, Portugal, Belgium and Italy. Other popular motoring events include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the World Rally Championship and the Monte Carlo Rally. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Le Mans Series are also two of the top car racing championships.
